Nutrition for Fertility

Statistics show that couples experiencing fertility problems is on the rise. With sperm counts dropping by up to 50%, sperm abnormalities increasing, an increase of women experiencing a miscarriage, and approximately 30% of couples told that they have ‘unexplained infertility’.

On a more positive note there is much that can be done to improve your fertility and chance of conceiving with nutrition, supplements and lifestyle changes.

For example some nutrients can have the following affects;

  • Certain fats can balance hormone levels.
  • Some foods can improve the quality of a woman’s eggs.
  • Zinc can increase sperm count and reduce miscarriage
  • Antioxidants can help prevent against birth defects, miscarriage and increase the production of good quality, healthy sperm.
  • Some vitamins increase sperm quality and stop it from clumping or sticking together.
  • Other nutrients can increase the flow of blood to the uterus, helping to provide a more fertile environment for the embryo to grow and develop.

It is just as important to make lifestyle changes also, as smoking, drinking, recreational drugs and stress, can all have an impact on your chance of conceiving.

It takes approximately 3 – 4 months for both the egg and the sperm to develop and mature therefore, we recommend that couples follow a nutritional programme for the same amount of time, prior to trying to conceive.

To check for any nutrient imbalances or deficiencies we may also recommend some simple non-invasive tests.

What our clients say – about nutrition for fertility

"After trying for a baby for over 12 months, undergoing many medical tests and taking medication that was making me feel terrible, I was looking for a place to turn to for help. Since part of my problem was being overweight, I researched nutrition and nutritionists online and when I came across The Nutritional Therapy Clinic's website, I was hooked.

My first session was very informative, interesting and engaging. Emma concentrated on everything that was relevant to me and the depth of her knowledge was amazing. I followed her instructions and started feeling better within 2 weeks. I stopped taking my medication, as I felt I no longer needed it, and started getting my energy back. I felt wonderful. My eating plan could fit practically into my day to day life and I started experimenting with food and ate much more than ever before and still lost weight. The subsequent sessions were exciting and Emma always had many new tips and advice for me.

I was pregnant in less than 4 months after my initial appointment, am now in my 12th week and everything is going very well thanks to Emma's pregnancy eating plan and the supplements she recommended.

Words cannot express how thankful I am to her and how astonished I am at what good nutrition can do."
